A double materiality assessment the team owns, and EcoVadis Silver.
Nedspice wanted to build its own capability for data-driven sustainability reporting, rather than outsource it. Chi trained the team in Rotterdam and in Vietnam, Nalise built a decarbonisation plan, and in 2026 Nedspice reached EcoVadis Silver.
The situation
As Nedspice's sustainability work evolved, the team needed a clearer approach to managing and analysing sustainability data. Existing processes lacked a shared structure, which made it harder to apply double materiality principles across the organisation. Rather than outsourcing, Nedspice wanted to build the internal capability to manage data-driven sustainability requirements independently.
Nedspice sources, processes and distributes spices, herbs and dehydrated vegetables, with its headquarters in the Netherlands and processing facilities in India and Vietnam. With its 2022 carbon footprint done and the 2023 calculations being finalised, it was weighing two reduction scenarios: 30% less Scope 1 and 2 emissions, or a more ambitious 42% in line with SBTi. Customers were asking for a clear reduction plan by the end of the year, and CSRD requirements were coming in early 2026.
Our approach
Chi chaired the double materiality workshop at the Rotterdam office in March 2024, with colleagues from Asia joining. In May 2025 she ran two days of on-site training in Vietnam, from environmental impact and supply chain sustainability to action planning. Nalise built a decarbonisation plan in 2024 and reviewed the EcoVadis approach in 2026.
As SBTi and decarbonisation expert, Nalise assessed how feasible each reduction scenario was, what setting science-based targets would mean for Nedspice (including FLAG targets for forest, land and agriculture) and which baseline year fits best. Because the Scope 3 calculations were still in progress, she phased the project: the immediate needs first, the SBTi and FLAG targets next. Her methods: the GHG Protocol, the SBTi methodology, CSRD and ESRS guidelines and the SBTi FLAG guidance.
The outcome
A tailored DMA training, better alignment on data management, capability that stays in-house, and an EcoVadis Silver medal in October 2026.
“We had a great experience working with freelancer Chi. She brought a wealth of knowledge on the sustainable regulatory landscape and guided us perfectly through our Double Materiality Assessment. The feedback she gave on our current sustainability strategy was very valuable, concise and practical. A big thanks to Dazzle for the perfect matchmaking.”
